A special tour with award-winning television news reporter, Paul Davies OBE, the first TV journalist to broadcast live from the 1989 revolution.

Throughout this special ten-day tour, you will explore the fascinating country of Romania, with the history of this former communist state brought to life by special guest Paul Davies, OBE. On the tour, he shall offer special insights into the political uprising that famously took place in 1989, whilst the tour also includes visits to important sites from this period of uprising, as well as Nicolae Ceausescu’s former palace residence.

It’s not all history on this tour however, with the tour visiting some of Romania’s most important UNESCO World Heritage Sites and natural beauties. Marvel at the spectacle of Romania’s ornate painted monasteries and take a narrow gauge rail journey through the Moldovita river plateau. The tour also includes a visit to Prince Charles’ private home in Transylvania; a beautiful building restored in traditional Romanian style.

Your Special Guest, Paul Davies OBE…

In late 1989 Paul was carefully monitoring the uprising in Romania as it gathered pace. In early December, he took his ITN team to Bucharest where he spent three weeks reporting on the dramatic events as they unfolded. He made friends with Romanian television journalists and was allowed to make a “base camp” in the state TV studios. His reports as Ceausescu fled, was captured, tried and executed on Christmas day were seen around the world as the fall happened. He has very fond memories of those television studios and the people he met – and both feature in our tour.
