Visit Athens and then dive into the turquoise waters of the Cyclades. Consisting of some of the most famous islands in Greece, why not explore all that Santorini, Naxos and Mykonos have to offer.

The Aegean Sea spanning between Greece and Turkey is home to roughly 1400 islands, of these it could be argued that the Cyclades are amongst the most famous and sought over travel destinations to visit. So named for the circle of islands formed around the sacred island of Delos, the Cyclades consists of over 200 islands, of which only a handful are inhabited. The sunsets across these dark-blue, crystal waters are unforgettable as it appears as though the sun has literally slipped into the sea below. These islands host some fascinating sights and sites where history and mythology are often blended into one.

Visit the Greek version of Pompeii at Akrotiri on Santorini. Destroyed and hidden by the result of a pre-history volcanic eruption, some scholars have attempted to link Akrotiri to the legends of Atlantis. Or fall in love on the Cyclades’ biggest island of Naxos, where a walk through the famous Portara will strengthen your passion for a lifetime, or so superstition denotes. Finally, take a private cruise to the island of Delos. This entire island is considered an archaeological park and embodies the idea of living history. Walk the streets and stroll through the theatre where the ancient Greeks stood thousands of years previous.

There is ample opportunity to relax, explore, swim and of course appreciate the cuisine of these islands of this fantastic tour.

      Words from Your Tour Coordinator…

“In 2014, I lived and worked on the coveted island of Santorini, famous for sunsets, volcanic black sandy beaches, and romantic weddings. Residing in the quiet seaside resort of Perissa under the shadow of Ancient Thira, I busied myself with practising Greek and exploring my new home. However, Santorini is quite small (about 18km long and 12km wide), so once I had discovered the best local tavernas and hidden beaches, as well as visited the famous volcano and the extraordinary ancient archaeology of Akrotiri several times, I began to look further afield.

Every Sunday (my one day a week off work) I’d spend much of my time visiting the other nearby Cycladic islands. On these rare days of relaxation, I gained some fantastic ‘off the beaten track’ knowledge about rustic villages and again, the best places to enjoy calamari washed down with cool, local wine.

This pleasure would seemingly never end. Every Sunday upon arrival at a new harbour-side, through the hot haze I would glimpse a sight of another of these islands. Upon asking a local ‘which island is that?’ I would be met with an alluring name like Anafi, Amorgos or Siros (or something as equally unfamiliar to me) and again my urge to explore further would be renewed. This is the beauty of the Cyclades and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.”
