Join Martin Bell OBE on this historic three-night break as he recalls his memories from reporting about the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Towards the end of 1989, as the Cold War began to thaw across Eastern Europe, the leader of the East German Communist Party made the incredible announcement that citizens of East Germany (GDR) could cross the border into the West as they wished, with effect from 9 November.

That night there were scenes of joy as ecstatic people from both sides celebrated at the wall – some even bought picks and started chipping away at it. Almost a year later, on 3 October 1990 the reunification of Germany took place and the wall was finally demolished in November 1991.

Martin Bell OBE reported from Berlin in 1990 as reunification plans were revealed and divided peoples again became one.

We have organised a historic three night break which includes visits to the famous sites of Berlin including: The Reichstag, Berlin Wall Memorial and East Side Gallery, The Stasi Museum, the Hohenschonhausen Memorial, The Asisi-panorama and Checkpoint Charlie. As we are visiting Berlin during the time of the anniversary, there will be various displays, events and performances taking place throughout the city and we will endeavour to include as much of this as possible.
